Pluribus is one of those shows that hijacks your brain for a few hours and refuses to leave. It’s from Vince Gilligan, the guy behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and stars Rhea Seehorn, who’s so good it’s almost distracting. You’ll notice a few familiar faces, and yes, it kicks off in Albuquerque, the same city as Breaking Bad, but don’t get comfortable. This isn’t that world. This is something entirely new.
It’s what we call “deep sci-fi,” meaning it’s not about ships or flashy tech. It’s about ideas. In this case, it’s about individuality, identity, and how we define “self” when the world starts pulling us toward sameness. Gilligan takes his time, building mood and rhythm instead of throwing plot at you. There’s sound design so crisp it’s practically ASMR, long scenes that just let life play out, and a confidence that trusts you’ll get it….eventually.
It’s stylish, smart, and weird in the best way. If you liked Severance, this will hit the same nerve….and you need to watch it.
